Remodeling your kitchen and bathroom are usually the most expensive renovations in your home, so don’t get caught between a rock and a hard place when you’re looking for new countertops! We work with all major suppliers of natural and man-made stone to help you find just what you’re looking for

How to Choose the Right Countertop

Your kitchen countertop might be the most important surface in your home. It’s the favorite place for family and friends to gather, the center for entertaining, late-night snacks, and of course, school projects. Your granite, quartz, marble or quartzite countertops will last for decades, so it’s understandable that you want to choose the right one.

Like many people, if you’ve spent time browsing countertops online, or visiting a home improvement showroom, you know the choices can be overwhelming, and a little confusing to say the least. That’s because there are so many countertop materials to choose from nowadays, and each one has its own distinctive look, with different benefits and drawbacks.

Here, we discuss our most popular stone countertop choices: Granite, Quartz, Quartzite and Marble. When you understand their similarities and differences, you’ll be better equipped to decide which one is perfect for your home.

POINTS TO CONSIDER

The choice between granite, quartz, marble, and quartzite is easier when you know your priorities. Here are three questions to answer:

Which is more important when using your countertops: stain resistance, scratch resistance, or etching? Granite provides better stain and scratch resistance than quartzite. Quartzite is better at resisting etching. Marble will resist stains if we use our 25 Year Sealer, but it can still exhibit etching from acidic foods and liquids. Quartz countertops have a high resistance to all three: staining, etching, and scratching.

What’s your budget for your kitchen remodel? Granite tends to be the least expensive, with quartzite at the top range. You can reduce the cost of your favorite countertop material by using it in one place, such as the kitchen, and choosing a complementary, less-costly material for your bathroom countertops.

Perhaps the most important question of all is: Which material and color will look best in my home? At the end of the day, all of today’s countertop surfaces, including marble, will last for decades with proper care.

Each type of countertop material has its own pros and cons, and ultimately the decision is yours. The best part about your choice, whether it’s granite, quartz, marble, or quartzite, is that no matter which one you pick, you’ll be installing a beautiful, durable countertop that you and your family will enjoy for many years.
